CollaboratioNZ – inspiring adventures in creativity - across time, across cultures, across worlds

BY ABBEY CAMERON

Every two years adventurous artists from across the world, keen to work in tandem with others, gather at the Manaia Camp at Whangarei Heads for a week to share and learn new skills.

The 70 participating artists get the chance to explore new mediums and connect with some of the world’s most creative minds. They grow their art-practice whilst collaborating to produce wonderful and unexpected art-pieces in a sublime setting.

The 2017 CollaboratioNZ event is a seven-day marathon of creativity starting on Friday 10 March and concludes with a ‘no-reserve’ auction of every artwork on Saturday 18 March at Forum North. The auction is open to the public and is a good chance to buy stunning original artwork at very reasonable prices with proceeds used solely to pay expenses and seed the next event.

On Tuesday 14 March CollaboratioNZ will open its doors from 10am-3pm for a public open day, giving you the opportunity to see the artists hard at work.

Local jewellery and long time CollaboratioNZ participant Steve Haywood says “The opportunity to work with some of the best people in their fields and have free exchange with these artists is incomparable.”

This event is one of the biggest on the Whangarei arts calendar, so venture out to the Heads for the open day or come along to the auction to see the results of a week of collaboration.
